When I was young, I remember that I argued with you more than I'd like to admit. But now that I'm older I really appreciate how you sought out the best for me and did everything you did because you cared about me. Now we can both look back and see how naive and immature I was, and we can see how much I've grown because of your influence. It amazes me how patient you were with me - you handled every conflict with grace. Both of these qualities I lacked, but I'm slowly learning how to be for others what you are for me.
I can say that you're probably the only person in the world that can truly understand me. I'm so lucky to have someone like you in my life, and I'm sorry for the times when I put all my problems and preoccupations ahead of you. The love you've shown me is so pure and sacrificial in nature that it's been the best example to me of what it really means for a person to love someone else.
It really sucks that I can't be home today, but I'm thankful there's the internet, cell phones, and skype. At least that way I can still see your face and tell you how much I love you.
Happy Birthday Mom. =]
