Heavenly Father, I thank You that You have given us the capacity to love, and I thank You for giving us the heart to mourn for the loss of things that You so preciously love. Thank You for giving us hearts to empathize for others - hearts to feel and share in one person's joy and another's pain. Thank You that we are truly Your creation, modeled after You - our hearts capable of reflecting even the smallest image of Your fullness.
God, right now I can tell that You're already aligning my own heart with Yours. My heart is beginning to feel - to love the things You love and break for what Your own heart breaks for. Although this is what I prayed for, this rush of emotion is something I haven't been able to handle, and it's been affecting me deeply in ways I couldn't have expected. I've been feeling heartbreak and pain in such an intense and raw way. I'm slowly losing control over my emotions. It scares me.
Lord, I pray that when we feel these emotions that they remind us we do have hearts, and that these hearts belong to You. I pray that when we feel joy and love, we remember these feelings pale in comparison to the joy and love You feel for us. And also I pray for the times of mourning - when our hearts break - that we remember these feelings of pain and heartache are nothing compared to the pain You feel every single day when Your creation chooses to stray from You. Lord, we mourn because we have rejoiced. Our hearts break because we have loved. I pray that these feelings of solemnness and suffering will only remind us of how little control we have over our lives and of how much we need You. Lord, for the times we mourn over the loss of precious life, I pray that we can remember how a full life was given by You and lived and loved in all its beauty. God, we don't understand death, and in times like these we need You more than ever. Even in these times You are always good. Give us peace of mind and heart through the Holy Spirit.
